Hoobuy costs: item price, shipping & budget

A budget spreadsheet is useful when it makes unknown costs visible. An inexpensive item can still be expensive to receive, especially when shipping depends on packed size and weight.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with the selected item price, then add quoted domestic delivery, payment or conversion costs, optional services, international freight and any applicable destination charges. Keep unquoted amounts unknown; an under-$25 card is not an under-$25 delivered order.

01

Begin with the original currency

Where available, we display the supplied CNY reference price alongside an approximate USD amount. The directory uses an indicative conversion, which may differ from the rate a payment provider or buying platform applies.

02

Check the selected variant

A displayed amount may be a starting price. Size, colour, quantity, bundles and other options can change it. Use the exact variant on the current destination listing when deciding whether an item fits your budget.

03

List the remaining cost categories

Separate item price, domestic delivery, payment or conversion charges, optional services, international shipping and potential destination charges. Leave a field marked “unknown” instead of turning an unquoted expense into a zero.

04

Ask for a meaningful shipping quote

A useful quote needs a destination and a realistic parcel. Packed dimensions, weight, service and packaging choices can affect the charge. Do not treat a product’s reference price as a delivered price, or a general delivery estimate as a promise.

05

Use budget filters for a shortlist

Our under-$25 and under-$50 filters compare indicative USD item prices. They are discovery tools, not all-in cost guarantees. Items without a usable price are excluded from a capped-price shortlist, rather than being treated as free.

06

Recheck at the decision point

Prices, options, availability and platform fees can change after our last data sync. Confirm the current total and terms at the destination before paying. Keep your shortlist flexible if an important cost is still unknown.

IN PRACTICE

A practical example

Worked example from the current directory reference: Nike Air Force 1 White Sneakers. The USD value is the directory’s indicative item estimate, not a payment-provider quote.

Budget worksheet — unknown is not zero
Cost lineAmount or status
One item reference¥96.00 CNY / ~$13.33 USD
Domestic deliveryUnknown — ask for the selected variant and quantity.
Conversion and paymentUnknown — use the provider’s current quote.
Optional servicesUnknown — include only the services you select.
International shippingUnknown — needs destination, route, packed weight and dimensions.
Applicable destination chargesUnknown — confirm for your destination and route.
Complete order totalNot yet known; the item price alone is not the total.
KEEP THIS HANDY

Before you continue

  • Original currency, selected variant and quantity are recorded.
  • The conversion is identified as an estimate or a provider’s quote.
  • Domestic and international shipping are separate lines.
  • Unknown charges remain unknown; you have a final quote before paying.

A common mistake

Do not total the visible item prices and label that the final cost. Do not reuse a competitor’s fixed exchange rate, tax figure or shipping promise as your actual quote.
